whats this album talk about, i see it as concept thing, all the tracks looks as attending a Lo-Fi Black Mass?
How it feels to be back? Back from where? We never left, we where always here! For the past 3 years we have been busier as we have ever been before: we have recorded several splits, a mini album a full length and did a lot of Seances across Europe…. So to say we are back….??? we have never been away!!!! As for the new album: It feels good to have it finally released, as it was a lot of planning and hard work, but we went through the whole process with smooth sailing, so everything has gone great…. but, in our universe, this „new“ record, is already „old“, since we have been working and recording a lot of new material, which will see the light of day somewhere next year! As for the concept of „Empty Space Meditation“, I think the artwork that ThornyThoughts made paints the perfect picture of what the concept is….
I think your style is pretty unique, and as a difference as a lot of other bands that use always the same formula, you evolve your style every release
but the Urfaust aura is always the same.
Jawohl! We never had any interested to create a second album over and over again, since we like to experiment with sounds and styles… We like to go all over the place, but it is very important to stick to our guns and keep the Urfaust spirit alive in our music… The aura as you say, should always be the same, but the sounds should not… or they can be… we do as we please…
I love te style of Tony R. but the last 2 artworks made by Thorny Thoughts Artwork rappresents best this moment in the Urfaust legacy
I fully agree! The artwork that ThornyThoughts provided for „Empty Space Meditation“ is the perfect representation of what IX and I had in mind when creating this album… We have spoken about some ideas we had in mind with ThornyThoughts and she listened to our album several times and she came up with this amazing piece of art… I love how many layers it has and how many details and hidden messages are there to find out… Each time I look at it, it I discover something new….
Im watching now the two artworks of Empty Space meditation and the split with Lugubrum, is this two artworks connected in a way?
No, the artwork is not connected in anyway, only that there might be some waves on it and that it is colored, but other than that: no connection….

Our split 7“ GHOULFAUST (a split with the Norwegian GHOUL CULT) has been released through Terratur Possessions during the last Prague Death Mass… I think ti actually might be sold out now, no idea… But I am happy we finally managed to record it, since this split 7“ was planned for several years, but both GHOUL CULT and us where to lazy to record… but we made it happen!!! As for upcoming split releases…. well, we have been recording 2 songs for a split with our brothers of WEDERGANGER, which will be released as 12“ on Ván Records! Wederganger is about to record their song, but the demo versions I have heard are fucking stellar… as for our tracks, well.. you have to heard them.. they are weird, but totally fitting: really looking forward to this one! It should be released somewhere in spring of 2017!
In the last years the name of Urfaust become bigger and bigger, why you think so many people get interest in the sound of Urfaust?
I think it might has to do with the fact that we have developed our own sound? But I might be the wrong person to ask, hehe… you should aks the people who listen to us!
I Know you are a big Gin lover, could you tell the readers of Devils noise magazine which is your favourite Poison?
Gin is indeed my favorite poison… There is to many to mention, since there are a lot of good gins, but also a lot of terrible ones… important: if you going to mix it, mix it with a tonic water that has a neutral flavor, so you can actually taste te gin! Thanks to the gin tonic hype, you get these flavored tonic bullshit no one needs: who wants to taste cherry blossom induced strawberry tonic with their Gin?
I know there was some special releases that you are working on for some time, could you tell me more about the Urfaus book you
tald me time ago that was in progress?
This whole plan is off… we have lost interest in it and do not care for it anymore… we want to focus on new audial releases for the future…
I saw that this year you played a lot of shows, could you talk about your next rituals?
- Yeah, we are going to take the Intoxication Train to some new places next year… In 2017 we will visit Estonia (Howls of Winter Festival) and Sweden (Stockholm Slaughter Festival) for the first time, but we will also return to Germany (Acherontic Arts festival and Party.San Open Air), Austria (Vienna) and Finland (Helsinki)… Also it is time to visit Portugal again (SMS Fest)…. and we have some other plans, but nothing has been confirmed yet! Your actual playlist of choice?
- I have been playing a lot of MGŁA, Judas Priest and Body Count in the car lately… as for vinyls: I keep pulling random records out of my collection, since I need to listen to them more and more…. So can’t give you an actual playlist for the moment, but you can be sure it contains music in every direction… From Black Metal to Classical!
Could you explain in a few words your personal philosophy behind Urfaust?
